It was December 1973 when a small group of women came together in Avon Park, Florida, (near Sebring, FL) with a vision of advancing the musical art form of 4-part harmony in this small rural community located in the center of Florida. Their goal was to create a chorus of women who had a common love of good music, a passion for singing, and the perseverance to attain set goals. Thus, The Heart of Highland Show Chorus was formed. Our membership has grown to include women of all ages who come from all walks of life. We strive to improve our techniques through practice and expert coaching. Fun and relaxation is also a key ingredient to the success of our chorus. We are not only chorus members who share a common goal but we are also good friends. If you would like to be a part of The Heart of Highland Show Chorus, we encourage you to come and experience the joy of friendship and music.
More About the Chorus...
Do you know most of our chorus members do not read music? Sheet music is provided along with learning CDs to assist in learning.
Each year the Heart of Highland Chorus awards scholarships to female graduates of Highlands County high schools. The monetary amount and the number of scholarships awarded are dependent upon the success of our annual show. Since the program was started, the Chorus has awarded 25 scholarships. For more information regarding the scholarship program, contact Linda Jaworski 352-350-0350.
Our major fundraiser is our annual show, usually in February. We also have our Fashion Show in the fall, which is a popular show and luncheon. Bake sales, Bunco Days, Spaghetti Dinners, are some of the fun fundraisers we have.
Sweet Adeline of the Year
We are a close-knit "family" and enjoy each other's company. In that regard, each year the members vote to choose the member they feel exemplifies what a Sweet Adeline should be. This person is identified at our Installation Dinner. She is the "Sweet Adeline of the Year".
